MELBOURNE | Bistro Morgan has been supplying artisanal hand-made and hand-dipped doughnuts to cafes and restaurants around Melbourne since January 2015, and is owned and operated by a 15 year old high school student. Crowned as Melbourne’s “Doughnut Prince”, Morgan Hipworth has always had his eye on the food industry, ever since the tender age of 7 years, when he started to cook 3-course dinners for his family. The City Lane was invited to Bistro Morgan’s Pop-Up Launch Event, and witnessed first-hand Morgan’s calm and professional attitude when confronted with a roomful of foodies and cameras.

For one week only, whilst Morgan is on school holidays, Bistro Morgan will open a pop-up store along busy High Street in Windsor, with a variety of his doughnut creations available to buy directly from him. With flavours ranging from M&Ms, Cherry Ripe, Golden Gaytime (syringe-infused with salted caramel sauce), Ferrero Rocher, Fruit Loops and White Chocolate, Rose & Pistachio (syringe-infused with jam), amongst many others, it will be impossible to stop at just one.

Unlike a lot of commercially produced doughnuts, Bistro Morgan’s doughnuts are light and fluffy inside, and his flavour range excites the palate, tasting exactly like the flavour they claim to be. For example, the fruit loops doughnut is dipped in white chocolate, injected with a custard-filled syringe and topped with multi-coloured fruit loops, reminiscent of eating cereal and milk for breakfast as a kid. Another point of difference for the young entrepreneur’s brand is that he hand-makes, dips and decorates every single doughnut he supplies to the public. With no help other than from his mum, who packages the doughnuts and drives him to the cafes and restaurants they supply on the weekends, his pastry skill and time management is impressive to say the least. We have no doubt that his future will be bright, and will definitely involve food. But for now, he is happy to continue his artisanal doughnut business on the side of his school studies.

Bistro Morgan Pop Up will be open from Sunday 18th-25th September 2016, so don’t miss out on trying one, or a few, of his signature creations.
