MELBOURNE | Pontoon St Kilda Beach is the second out of three venues to open within the new Stokehouse Precinct, following a devastating fire to their flagship restaurant in 2014. Pontoon is like the rebellious middle child, being more of a casual social space as opposed to the take-away fish and chip kiosk next door, and the finer dining restaurant upstairs, both of which also form part of the Stokehouse precinct.
This cool, new social space is ideal for casual drinks and food with friends, as well as for standing-room functions, with idyllic views overlooking St Kilda beach and the ocean. The interior design has a casual seaside vibe with a contemporary twist, thanks to the alfresco-style windows, grey-blue hues throughout the venue, ship rope tied around pillars, and the modern looking 18 metre-long bar. The addition of upbeat music playing through the speakers and casually dressed staff further encourages a relaxed ambience.
The food here is designed to be shared, with a variety of grilled seafood and meats predominantly cooked over the four metre grill. Based on the function-style food we nibbled on during the launch event, food certainly doesn’t lack in flavour or creativity when it comes to showcasing local produce. Combine the food with drinks served from the long bar, and Pontoon serves as the perfect beach side getaway.
Pontoon is now open to the public, whether you just want to pop in for a drink, or want to sit down and people-watch from their alfresco-style venue.
