PORTLAND | Rogue Distillery & Public House Pearl District is one of the 4 Portland locations of Rogue Brewing, a company that needs no introduction. Probably the best known of the Oregon breweries, Rogue has been brewing beers since 1988 and has built a reputation for their great core range beers and interesting and experimental brews. Each Rogue bar has its own vibe and feels like an independent venue and the Pearl District venue is no different. On offer are Rogue spirits and beers, distillery tours, outside seating, and pizza & beer delivery. For those who are just interested in the beer, there are 38 taps that include a selection of unique limited-release beers that are only available at this venue.
There are so many Rogue beers around that it’s hard to pick a favourite. Your best bet is to take a look at the tap list and choose a selection to sample as a tasting flight. If you want some guidance from us, we’d highly recommend the Hazelnut Brown Nectar Ale, which is one of the best brown ales we’ve tried anywhere along with the Dead Guy Ale and the Mocha Porter. For those looking for something more adventurous, try one of the divisive Voodoo Doughnut collaboration beers and if it’s a hop hit you’re after, go for the 4, 6, 7 and 8 hop IPAs. We didn’t say it would be easy deciding what to drink, and that’s before you get to the spirits list!
One thing to be aware of if you’re from overseas is to bring your passport. Out of all of the bars, pubs and breweries we visited in all of Oregon (including the Rogue Brewery and one of their pubs in Newport), this was the only venue that wouldn’t accept our Australian and UK drivers licenses as valid ID. Be prepared.
