PERTH | Short Order Burger Co. is a burger joint that has developed a quite the cult following since popping up in Fremantle’s “The Mantle” in 2015. The reason? They serve up some of the best burgers in Perth.
Owner Simon Kony creates burgers inspired by American diners and their “short order” cooks. He hails from Melbourne, and before moving to Perth, spent every Sunday night for two and a half years sampling burgers from Melbourne’s best burger joints. Unsurprisingly, eating and rating so many burgers gave Kony a good idea of what the perfect burger should be. There are only six burgers on the menu at Short Order, with a focus on simplicity and letting the high quality of the ingredients shine.
The beef patties use 100% grass fed beef, with the mince being hand ground fresh each day. Flame grilled to medium rare, they’re exactly as they should be – juicy and full of beefy flavour. The brioche buns are nice a soft, compacting perfectly when held and not overly sweet like many brioche buns can be. Our favourite burger is the Short Order Burger, featuring a beef patty with smoked mozzarella, American cheddar, lettuce, tomato, pickles, mustard, ketchup and ‘Short Order’ sauce. The addition of a piece of maple candied bacon is highly recommended. Spice fiends should try the Fiery Short Order Burger, which swaps out pickles, ketchup and Short Order sauce for jalepenos, Sriracha mayo and jalepeno mayo.
Sides are simple, as in fries only, and come with the option of a few different sauces – we recommend the Sriracha mayo. To wash it all down, there’s only soft drinks on the drinks list, but you’re allowed to BYO.
