MELBOURNE | The Craft & Co is a unique venue in the heart of Collingwood, aimed at showcasing local Victorian and Australian producers in a variety of ways. Not only are they an eatery and bar, but they also have an in-house retail store, production facilities, on-site microbrewery, distillery, rooms dedicated to curing meats and making cheese, and a coffee roaster. Owner Paul Baggio has cleverly found a way to collaborate with industry peers in a relaxed and family-friendly venue.

The City Lane was recently invited to experience The Craft & Co.’s first Christmas Market, which they hope to run annually. We’ve visited before for a few snacks and drinks during their normal setup, and loved the atmosphere and offering so were interested to see what they’d transformed it into for Christmas. Set up in the upstairs loft of their multifaceted venue, a variety of Victorian producers held stalls offering samples and products, ranging from chocolates to honey, salts, cook books, Christmas puddings, and house-made wines, salami and cheeses, just to name a few.

This venue is an excellent example showcasing effective industry relationships between producers and sellers. They are also passionate about respecting each ingredient, where it comes from, and how it can be incorporated into a modern dish that the public will enjoy. The staff here are very willing to talk with customers about everything they have to offer, and the venue hosts a program of events, functions and classes that teach people how the produce is made, why it’s made in that way and how to use your newly learnt skills at home.

Whether it’s a drink, a snack, a proper meal, or to learn something new, The Craft & Co is definitely worth checking out.
