MELBOURNE | Parkstone has just opened its doors in Pascoe Vale and brings the inner-city cool café vibe to the burbs. We were invited to visit and whre keen to see what it was all about.

When you walk through the doors, you’re greeted with a light filled, airy and calming space. It’s beautifully presented, with a lush green fern feature wall and golden wooden tones throughout. There are plenty of seating options – traditional tables, private booths, and large windows where you can watch the world go by. We sat in a booth as not only were we in love with the lush feature wall, but it also made us feel a little special.

The menu caters for breakfast and a lazy afternoon lunch, with plenty of healthy choices and vegan options. It features staples such as smashed avocado on toast and light fruity breakfast bowls. The rest of the menu has a lot of variety, with Asian and Middle Eastern inspired flavours in the mix. From the breakfast menu we sampled the SUPERCALIFRAGILISTICEXPIALIDOCIOUS. Yes, that is what the dish is actually called. It is a mix of seasonal greens, avocado, roasted sweet potato, quinoa, mixed seeds, poached egg, feta labneh with spicy sesame butter sauce. Healthy and delicious.

From the lunch menu, we tried the crispy fried chicken burger which is topped with kohlrabi slaw, lemongrass, kaffir lime, coriander, lettuce and tom yum mayo with a side of chips. The burger is light and fresh, moreso than many others we’ve tried around Melbourne. There are a lot of healthy options in fact, as well as vegan and gluten free choices. The mini menu for the kids is also exciting, and gives them smaller servings of the kinds of things you’ll find on the main menu, rather than dumbed down dishes. You can treat your kids to a healthy chia pudding, classic buttermilk pancakes and a range of other tantalising options that they’ll love.

The drinks menu includes freshly squeezed juices, milkshakes, booze and healthy smoothies. It really caters for any mood. We had the Green Goddess which was jam packed with good stuff – matcha, spinach, avocado, green apple, pineapple, coconut water. We also sampled the vanilla milkshake to wash down the burger, and it hit the spot nicely.

Parkstone is a great spot to relax and take in the homely, inviting atmosphere. The menu is well thought out with a great sample of dishes that are prepared with care, presented nicely, and taste very good. Definitely one to add to the list if you find yourself in this part of town.
