SAN DIEGO | Rip Current Brewing are a San Marcos based brewery who opened a taproom in North Park San Diego in 2015. It’s an open space, with big windows and two entrances making it feel closer to the ocean than it is, as the breeze flows through the venue. The beers, decor, music and atmosphere at Rip Tide all come together to evoke a relaxing day at a seaside shack.
The beers at Rip Current focus on robust, flavorful beer styles from around the world, and owners and friends Paul Sangster, Guy Shobe, Mike Branon and Tim Cady make an effort to focus on variety over volume. The North Park taproom’s 19 taps showcase this variety, featuring something for everyone, with all major (and some non-major) styles represented. Some of the interesting and tasty beers that you can try include the Orange Honey Cream Ale, a blonde Cream Ale fermented with a high quality Orange Blossom honey and aged on sweet Orange peels, or the Lupulin Lust, a San Diego-style Double IPA with grapefruit, lemon, tangerine, and floral character. For something more challenging, but we think rewarding, try the Boysenberry Tart, a lactic tart sour beer which uses plenty of Boysenberries during fermentation.
If it’s all to difficult, start with a tasting paddle, and have a chat with the staff who will find the right beers for you.
Rip Current shares the space with Sublime, who provide the food menu for the venue. Think gourmet comfort food like pizzas, mac & cheese, soups & salads, sandwiches and snacks like fries, jalapeno poppers and hot wings.
