LOS ANGELES | In-N-Out Burger needs no introduction. It’s a cult classic whose name is known to burger lovers not just in the US, but across the world. Why are people so obsessed with In-N-Out Burger? It’s simple, they make simple, high quality, fresh, affordable, traditional American burgers that taste fantastic.
Many attribute this to the company’s philosophy. In-N-Out Burger is owned by the Snyder family (it was founded in 1948 by Harry Snyder and his wife Esther Snyder), who refuse to adopt a franchise model. Nothing is frozen, microwaved or reheated, and stores are not opened unless they are close enough to a company owned distribution centre so that ingredients can be delivered fresh daily. Only natural ingredients are used, and beef patties contain 100% USDA ground chuck. On top of all of that, In-N-Out is known for its generous pay and benefits scheme for employees when compared to many other players in the industry. You typical fast food chain In-N-Out is not.
As for what’s in those tasty burgers, well it’s very much a matter of playing it simple. There’s the hamburger, with a single beef patty, lettuce, tomato, sliced onions, special sauce, and sponge dough bread. The cheeseburger adds a slice of American cheese to the mix, while the Double Double adds an extra beef patty and extra slice of cheese. Our favourite is on the ‘not so secret’ menu. An “Animal Style” cheeseburger, which takes the regular cheeseburger but uses a mustard grilled beef patty, grilled onions, pickles and extra sauce. It’s the thing of beauty you can see in photo number four in the slider above.
Other ‘not so secret’ options include things like the 4×4 (I’m sure you can guess what happens there) and protein style, which swaps out bread for a lettuce wrap.
Soft drinks and shakes are also offered, while for sides its fries only. The fries use fresh potatoes that are hand-cut in store but for some surprising reason, given how great the burgers are, they really don’t taste that great. We’ve been to In-N-Out Burger several times and the fries have always been dry and bland. It’s a mystery.
In-N-Out Burger currently have stores across California, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, Texas, and Oregon. If you haven’t been, get to a store the next chance you get. Do you have a favourite ‘In-N-Out Burger hack’ you’d like to share? Let us know how you do In-N-Out Burger in the comments section below.
