CHICAGO | After a long awaited approval from mission control, fans of Milwaukee’s spy themed restaurant The SafeHouse can now take refuge at the Second City location at 60 East Ontario. We were lucky enough to be invited to the sneak preview of SafeHouse Chicago before doors were opened to the public.
If you are looking for a one-of-a-kind dining experience with a family or a girls’ night out, look no further than SafeHouse Chicago. Guests require a password to enter – it’s remained unchanged from the Milwaukee location. We don’t want to reveal too many secrets but upon entering guests are asked to take an agent name and complete unique missions during their evening of reconnaissance. The Marcus Corporation is the brains behind this latest mission in Chicago. They decorated the Chicago outpost with espionage artifacts including a WWII plane, a piece of the Berlin Wall and even an Interrogation Room.
The menu itself is written in code with sandwiches such as the “Cuban Missile Crisis” and the “Mission Impossible” In an ode to the original Wisconsin location, we suggest all would be spies give these a try. Our server did not blow his cover the entire evening and made for a very enjoyable evening. The cocktails themselves have had a spy makeover and feature some novel twists on some well known classics. Exploring is encouraged before, during and after your meal as the space is surprisingly large, and intricately decorated. It almost feels as if there is something to discover no matter which way you look.
