HAMMOND | Gary, Indiana based brewers 18th Street Brewery opened a brewpub in Hammond in 2015, and it’s a great place to try some of the fantastic beers that they produce. Located in a former furniture warehouse, the space is large and open. Ample seating fills the front and the sides of the central bar, while barrels filled with beer line the rear.

The original brewery in Gary now houses a 10 barrel open fermentation systemn, while the Hammond brewery houses the production brewery and barrel ageing program. 18th Street brew an assortment of beers covering most styles – from Saisons to Double IPAs and Double Milk Stouts to lagers. At the brewpub you can sample the full range of core beers, along with a selection of limited and seasonal brews across 11 taps. Tasting paddles are offered so you can try a few things, and you can also get growlers refilled to take away.

Favourites of ours include Devil’s Conclave, an 8.2% Double Milk Stout brewed with cinnamon and sea salt, and Sex and Candy, a 7.5% ABV IPA packed with Chinook and Cascade hops.

Food wise it’s a selection of pub favourites like sandwiches, wings, tacos and some surprisingly good ramen. On Sundays there’s an additional menu featuring a short selection of brunch items.
