SAN FRANCISCO | The Yerba Buena Gardens is two blocks of public parks in downtown San Francisco that opened in 1993 and 1998 respectively. The name Yerba Buena comes from the name of San Francisco when it was part of the Mexican territory of Alta California, prior to annexation by the US in 1846.

Yerba Buena is home to many cultural institutions and attractions including the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial, a large green space where performance arts events are held throughout the year, the Sister Cities Garden, the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Children’s Creativity Museum (Zeum), and ice skating rink, a bowling alley, and a restored 1905 carousel. The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Contemporary Jewish Museum, and Museum of the African Diaspora are all located nearby.

Whether you visit for one of the attractions, or simply to relax in the park, Yerba Buena Gardens provides a nice oasis from the hustle and bustle of the city.
