PERTH | Queen of Leeds is a cafe in Leederville that brings some serious pedigree to Oxford Street’s coffee scene. Mitch Smith and Nathan Ling, owners of Nedlands’ Felix & Co, partnered with longtime Felix & Co manager Anisa Hirte (ex Lemon Espresso, Proud Mary Coffee), to open Queen of Leeds, the name of which is derived from the Speed Queen washing machines that filled the former laundromat space. The space is unrecognisable from what it used to be – the hole in the walls is now light filled with exposed brick walls, concrete floors, recycled materials and upcycled furniture.

Coffee is the focus here, and there’s a lot to like. Coffee is mostly sourced from Proud Mary (owned by Anisa’s brother, Nolan) and Loaded Craft Roasters, and there are several rotating guest beans on offer from various coffee roasters around Australia. As you’d expect from a place like this, you can get your coffee brewed pretty much any way you like – with a range of espresso and filter options available.

If you’re hungry, there’s a small cafe menu of toasted sandwiches, cakes and pastries. Think a BBQ mushroom, onion jam & gruyere toastie, raspberry and chocolate cheesecake, and chocolate brownie.
