CARTAGENA | Abaco Libros y Cafe (Abacus Books & Coffee) is quaint little cafe in Cartagena’s historic walled city with a difference. As well as serving some of the city’s best coffee, it’s also a book store.
Abaco, which opened in 2002, features floor to ceiling bookshelves on all side which hold thousands of fiction and non-fiction titles from Colombian and international writers. The majority of books are in Spanish, however there are plenty of English language translations available too. On our first visit, we picked up a fantastic cookbook full of traditional Colombian recipes that was available in both Spanish and English.
As well as coffee, Abaco also offers a small selection of pastries and snacks. A small number of seats and tables in the middle of the store provide space for you to enjoy your coffee while looking through a few of the books on offer.
