MELBOURNE | Beechworth Honey Discovery is located in the historic Bank of NSW building in Beechworth and gives visitors, well, the opportunity to discover honey.

The cafe features a range of honey inspired creations like nougat, cakes, sparkling drinks, juices and milkshakes. We particularly love the fantastic mulled honey which is perfect on a winter’s day. There’s a mead cellar door where you can try four different varieties of mead, and a display of historic Australian beekeeping memorabilia, artefacts and journals. There are of course, bees to look on site too, and lots of demonstrations and tours throughout the day, aimed at both adults and chidren.

You can also buy a range of different honeys to take home with you, along with other honey related items. We left with a 1kg tub of their fantastic Orange Blossom honey. If you want to try some honey for yourself, just a few minutes up the road is Beechworth Honey Experience, where you can try over 30 different varieties of the good stuff.

The City Lane might have changed quite a lot since those early days but one thing that’s remained constant is Paul’s passion for food, travel and culture, and a desire to photograph and write about his experiences. Paul has a strong inquisitive nature that drives him to look beneath the surface in order to discover what really makes a city and its people tick, and what better way to do this than over a good meal or drink, with a city’s locals, at places that people who live in that city actually frequent. Paul is also a co-host of The Brunswick Beer Collective, a podcast that may or may not actually be about beer.
