CHICAGO | Bangers & Lace Wicker Park is a place that knows all about the simple fact that sausages and beer are two things that go very well together. Most people know that ‘bangers’ refers to sausages, but what’s Lace? Well it refers to the pattern that beer foam leaves on the edge of a glass. The space is dark and cozy, think a hunting lodge in the woods on a cold winter’s day – the stuffed animals and theme appropriate paintings will make it hard not to. All up it makes for a cozy, welcoming experience, aided by staff who know their beer well, and are passionate about the stuff.
On the draft taps (all beautifully topped with wooden handles) you’ll find 32 different beers, along with a further 60 or so available in bottles. Beers are mostly American, with some quality European drops amongst the mix. Expect to find beer from breweries like Birriffico, Dupont, Solemn Oath, and Three Floyds. Make sure to keep an eye out on the bar’s social media channels for new of tap takeovers, which happen from time to time and see some very interesting beers being poured.
For non beer drinkers, a range of other options are offered, including a short, but quality wine and cocktail list and a very decent selection of bourbons.
The ‘bangers’ are all made in house, and there are several tasty flavours on offer, using meats like beef, pork, venison and chicken. For those not in the mood for a sausage, there are a few other options like a cheeseburger, salad, croque monsieur, and pretzels. The brunch menu is surprisingly robust too, featuring items like A.M. poutine, duck sausage BLT, the aforementioned cheeseburger, and a ‘proper’ breakfast.
