HONOLULU | Bar Leather Apron was opened in 2015 by bartender Justin Park, and Tom Park (no relation), earning a reputation as one of the best cocktail bars in Honolulu. It was recently awarded number 42 in the ‘World’s 50 Best’ best bars in America list.
Hidden on the mezzanine level in the lobby of the TOPA Financial Center, Bar Leather Apron a must visit for outstanding cocktails and Hawaii’s biggest selection of whiskey. The small, sophisticated, low-lit venue draws inspiration from Justin and Tom’s travels, and their favourite cocktail bars around the world. Technique-driven cocktails are created and served with excellent service, knowledge and passion.
There’s the classics, plus house creations that incorporate seasonal and Hawaiian ingredients. Try the signature E Ho’O Pau Mai Tai. It’s a blend of raisin-infused El Dorado 5 yr rum, El Dorado 12 yr rum, coconut water syrup, spiced orgeat, vanilla ohia blossom honey, lime, absinthe, and wood smoke. The Imperial Old Fashioned, one of several twists on the classic that’s on the menu, is another great option. It combines Suntory Toki, Hakushu 12 yr, Angostura bitters, Wasanbon sugar, lilikoi, and shiso essence.
Food is East Asian inspired, and is much more than an afterthought. Expect things like citrus sake cured kanpachi, jasmine tea smoked duck bao, and kimchi clam dip.
