LONDON | Beyond Bread bakery is a culinary pioneer with a range of naturally gluten-free foods, and has been selling its wares in London since 2015. The City Lane was invited to a Christmas brunch at their second branch in Islington (the original is in Fitzrovia), and had quite an eye-opener and most lovely foodie experience with a gluten-free menu. In fact, the gluten free bakery angle is on of Beyond Bread’s selling points.

The main dish was an assortment of fresh ingredients on top of their signature seeded toast. We went for smoked salmon topping, with mashed avocado, fresh rocket, toasted almond flakes, fresh chillies and feta crumble, drizzled with lemon and chilli dressing. That turned out to be an exceptional burst of both flavours and colours on a plate.

We then finished with honey cake and, since it was that time of the year, mince pies. The honey cake was dreamy, and apparently a family favourite in Beyond Bread’s shops, whilst the home-made mince pies were such a festive delight.

The shop floor was a lovely space, offering both goodies to take away and healthy, fresh options for breakfast and brunch, whilst the staff was friendly and passionate about their food concepts. We will definitely be back to explore the rest of the bakery range and the brunch menu at a later date.
