SAN FRANCISCO | Big Rec Taproom is a Mission craft beer sports bar that opened in 2015, but was revamped in 2017 when it was purchased by Barry Smyth, Michael McCloskey, and Jason Perkins of nearby Crafty Fox Alehouse. For this venue they’ve brought on head chef Pedro Villegas as a fourth partner, and the result is a Big Rec Taproom that’s better than ever.
The bar has space for around 70 patrons, and seven screens dotted around the venue means you’ll always have a good view of the game no matter where you’re sitting.
There’s a strong focus on local craft beer across Big Rec’s 15 taps, with most of the taps featuring beers from Northern Californian breweries, and the rest featuring mostly beers from elsewhere in California. Think beers from the likes of Alvarado Street, Moonlighty, Fieldwork and Barebottle.
Food wise it’s all about affordable, elevated pub fare made using fresh, locally sourced produce. Think burgers and sandwiches, Korean fried wings, and an assortment of sides and larges plates like blistered Brussels sprouts and smoked salmon toast.
