AUCKLAND| Boy & Bird Ponsonby offers customers a very simple proposition. Free range chickens served up in a variety of ways. It’s the brainchild of chef Mike van de Elzen (The Food Truck Park) and hospitality maestro Marie Colosimo.
The chickens are citrus-brined, spice-rubbed and poached, then cooked on the rotisserie until they’re moist on the inside and salty and crispy on the outside. The star is the chicken of course, and its served it a variety of ways. You can grab a quarter, half, or whole chicken with some sides like chunkies with chipotle aioli, pickled kumara with gravy, and pickled white coleslaw. Other options include things like hot steamed purple wholemeal brioche rolls with a variety of fillings (we recommend the chicken with pickled slaw and smoked chilli dressing), fried chicken, wings, and salads. A handful of non-chicken items are offered, but really that’s not what you’re coming here for.
For drinks, its soft drinks, Hallertau beer, a few wines, or the healthy option of fresh juices – carrot and coconut is our favourite.
If you don’t want to dine in, the menu is available to go.
