BEECHWORTH | Bridge Road Brewers are one of Victoria’s most highly regarded breweries due to their dedication to making quality small batch beers out of their brewing facilities in Beechworth. The brewery was founded by winemaker Ben Kraus, who spent a few years in Europe intending to learn how to make wine but instead got a job at a brewery in Austria and learned all about the art of brewing.

The brewery and bar is located in a Coach House and Stables and is a welcoming, family friendly space with a real community feel about it. There are lots of communal benches and seating spots, live footy on during the weekends, and a playground outside for the kids.

The beer at Bridge Road Brewers is brewers naturally, without pasteurization, or preservatives, and when you visit you’ll find the core range beers on tap, along with a few seasonal and one-off creations. The Bling IPA is one of our favourites, a nicely balanced, hoppy and malty brew, while the accessible Robust Porter, with chocolate, roasted and mocha notes, is another winner. The special releases are also worth keeping an eye out for. Bridge Road Brewers are not afraid of experimenting, and have even collaborated with internationally renowned breweries like Mikkeller and Nøgne Ø in the past.

If you can’t decide from the impressive tap range, the friendly staff are more than happy to guide you through the list, and there’s always the option of a tasting paddle.

The food at the brewery bar is all about things designed to go well with beer. Pizzas are the highlight here, as are the authentic pretzels which are made to an authentic recipe developed by Ben’s wife Maria, who hails from Austria. There’s also a burger, pastrami sandwich, BBQ pork ribs and a few sides too. Simple, tasty stuff made using fresh, locally sourced ingredients.
