CHINCHERO | Centro Textil URPI is one of the many places to find textiles in the Sacred Valley town of Chinchero. Chinchero is famous for its handicrafts and textiles, and there are artisans in this town who make things the way they’ve been made for centuries.
At Centro Textil URPI you can see women dressed in traditional costumes perform the process of spinning and dyeing alpaca wool with natural dyes, before hand weaving beautiful fabrics and things like towels, table runners, and rugs.
There are short tours given in English, and at the end there is, of course, the opportunity to purchase items. Things are a bit pricier than the machine made items, but the quality of the handiwork is worth the extra price. Do be sure to barter down to a fair price that suits both you and the seller.
