MELBOURNE | Named after the intersecting streets on which this Seddon pub sits, Charles & Gamon is a venue that’s focused on getting the simple things right – good food and drink in a friendly, cozy environment. This gastropub of sorts puts an emphasis on discovering the provenance of their food and the unique stories that have gone into producing all the beers, wines and spirits that they put on our shelves.
Accordingly, the food doesn’t focus on a particular style of cuisine, rather on getting the most out of the ingredients that they source. There’s an emphasis on small to whole cut meats, outlined on the menu under “Small Goods” and “For the Table” share plates. Think confit boneless lamb shoulder, rotisserie free range chook, pork scratchings, and fried mozzarella sticks. If that doesn’t tickle your fancy, there’s always an old school steak, parma and chips, mini burgers and desserts too.
Drinks wise, it’s all about small wine producers and local breweries, with a few international drops thrown in for good measure. In a move we applaud, all wines are available by the glass, and the regularly rotating beer selection means there’s always something interesting worth drinking. Also of note is the bar’s ever expanding single malt whisky selection, which features plenty of well known, and some not so well known quality drops from all over the world.
Whether its just a few drinks you’re after, a snack, or a more substantial meal, Charles & Gamon has a lot to offer, with lots of booths and tables to suit individuals or groups of any size, along with a heated outdoor courtyard to enjoy whether its hot or cold.
