NEW YORK CITY | Circa Brewing Co. is one of the newest breweries in New York City and is all about great beer and equally great wood-fired pizza. Located in downtown Brooklyn it’s a surprisingly large (6,000 square feet), warehouse like space with lots of exposed concrete, wood, tiles and brewing equipment in full view. The space was designed by Greg Yang design and MGMT and has been influenced by Brooklyn’s manufacturing spaces and famous 1980s and 90s Manchester nightclub the Hacienda. There’s ample seating whether it’s bar stools, tables or booths, and there are large screens showing live sports and, when we were there, the news.

On the 11 taps you’ll find a variety of styles brewed by Circa, and a few guest brews. Flights of four tasters are offered so you can sample a few different things. Our favourites are the Back Alley Gose, a 4% ABV Gose with coriander, sea salt, hibiscus, fresh ginger, and the 4.0% ABV Nitro Stout with coffee, roast, chocolate – one of the best low ABV stouts we’ve tried.

Non beer drinks have a choice between a few ciders, a carefully selected range of six wines, along with a few tasty cocktails, including limited barrel-aged cocktails.

For food it’s of course pizza, along with a selection of pastries at brunch, and salads plus other bar favourites at lunch and dinner. Really though, you come here for the pizza. I mean who can go past a Benedict brunch pizza topped with maple bourbon ham, spinach, hollandaise, mozzarella, parmigiano regianno, and farm fresh eggs?
