CARTAGENA | Colombia is famous for its fantastic coffee, and one of the best places to try it in Cartagena is Epoca Espresso Bar (Arzobispado). Epoca is a cafe/bar in Centro Historico that specialises in showcases the best quality Colombian coffee beans to those who walk through its doors.
The space is light and airy, with a calm feel. Natural materials like timber and marble combine with chequered tiled floors and a chilled Colombian soundtrack to create a classic, Colonial-era feel.
Owners Julian and Nikki source beans directly from eight small production coffee growers in the coffee growing regions of Tolima, Quindío, Nariño and Cundinamarca. They ensure that the growers get a fair price for their beans, and roast the beans themselves.
A wide variety of different brews are on offer at Epoca, from simple filter and espresso based drinks to more experimental creations. The filter tasting flight is highly recommended, and gives you the sample to see how different beans and different roasting levels can effect the final flavour of a coffee. Also delicious are the coffee based cocktails, which are prepared with an element of theatrics in front of you.
There’s a full breakfast and lunch menu available from morning into the evening, and a fully stocked bar full of beer, wine and spirits. Free WiFi is available, and you can purchase freshly roasted beans to take home with you.
