MELBOURNE | The Farm Yarra Valley on the outskirts of the Yarra Valley in Warrandyte South occupies 100 acres of Victorian farmland set amongst picturesque rolling hills. The City Lane was invited to the launch event of this newly renovated farmhouse and function event space, which had hosted their very first function only one week prior. As our host, Rowan, explained, The Farm Yarra Valley aims to be a premier wedding and event venue destination in Victoria.

With its capacity to seat up to 110 guests in their open reception space, The Farm provides a memorable location for your individualised event. Red brick walls add a burst of colour to the natural light-filled building, with wine barrels serving as props and stands, adding to the farmhouse vibe. Out the front, a long, timber verandah overlooks this expansive estate and vineyard, with bluestone steps leading down to a classical fountain. This layout provides the perfect setting for taking photographs during your special event.

Wine is produced onsite by the award-winning Rob Dolan who, with over 20 years experience, is the second largest wine producer in Victoria. His signature white label wines include Chardonnay and Shiraz which we tried and enjoyed, however his produce also includes a range of other white label blends, as well as small-batch varietals. Wine tastings will be available when they open to the public from the second weekend in July. Serving as the perfect accompaniment to wine, cheese degustations will be available from August onwards.

When it comes to the food, resident chef Benjamin Van Tiggelen (ex Rockpool) does not disappoint. His creations range from things like a simple starter of oysters topped with sliced red onion, to main event dishes such as goats cheese tortellini garnished with raisins and burnt butter sauce, or cured ocean trout with pickled onion and crème fraiche atop lightly toasted brioche bread. No matter what the occasion, there is no doubt that Ben has the skills to cater for individualized tastes, flavours and themes. We were certainly impressed by the range of canapes that we sampled at the launch, with the goats cheese tortellini impressing in particular.

Highlighting the importance of community ties, The Farm sources their ingredients for food, wine and beer from local producers and individual vineyards, as well as from their kitchen garden patches available on their land. It’s not just about private events either. Events such as Farm Feasts (a night of wine tasting, followed by dinner featuring a seasonal roast each week) and the Sunday Roast series (showcasing a different meat each week) are a few examples of what people can expect.

Whether you are celebrating a birthday, wedding, or anything in between, this event space overlooking Yarra Valley’s natural beauty provides a relaxed yet elegant ambience for any occasion.
