MELBOURNE | GoodDays Brunswick brings a much needed Asian flavour to Sydney Road’s ever diversifying food scene. It’s fitting with the area – a small chic space with seating for 25 people and sleek lines, tiled floors and high plastered ceilings that pay homage to the building’s heritage while giving it a modern feel. The menu is small, featuring a handful of Vietnamese favourites like pho, Hainanese chicken rice (com ga hai nam), rice paper rolls and chicken wings. The difference compared to your usual Vietnamese fare is that half of the menu is vegan friendly, and all produce is ethically sourced – the pork comes from our favourite Berkshire pork producers McIvor Farm Foods, while the chicken comes from Milawa Free Range Poultry and the beef is sourced from Hagan’s Organic Butchers (run by the same family that owns McIvor Farm Foods).

The broth of the beef pho is full of flavour, with delectable strips of  24-hour sous-vide Victorian Black Angus beef brisket while the chicken rice contains tender chicken and perfectly cooked, flavoursome broken rice.

Tap beer comes from Kensington’s Henry Street Brewery (try the Saigon Summer Ale) and a few Victorian wines are also offered.

GoodDays may not offer the most authentic Vietnamese in town – for that the stalwarts in Footscray, Richmond and Springvale reign supreme, but this hardly matters when the food tastes this good and the ingredients are of such high quality.
