SAN FRANCISCO | Housed in what was once home of the 1950s Key Klub, Hopwater Distribution is one of San Francisco’s best craft beer bars, with 31 taps dedicated exclusively to Californian beers. The aim of owners Sky Wegman, Chris Barry, and Jon Guinea is to have a place where people can enjoy great beer without pretension, where the untried novice and the versed beer geek can feel welcome.
The space makes good use of its heritage features and features a light filled, rustic aesthetic, with exposed brick walls, wood accents, and a large copper bar. The atmosphere meets the unpretentious mould, and you’ll find a mixed crowd here, with live sports on the TVs and people just having a good time.
There are around 425 breweries in California, and there’s a chance that you might find beers from any one of them on the taps which rotate heavily. Expect core range, seasonal, and one-off brews from the likes of The Bruery, Almanac, Monkish, Heretic, Sierra Nevada and more. All of the main styles are well represented, as are less common, and more experimental styles.
For food, it’s a mixture of bar bites and larger dishes which put a refined spin on bar classics. Think things like Dungeness Crab tater tots, beer breaded & fried seasonal pickled vegetables, house blend burgers, fried chicken sandwiches, and salads.
