HO CHI MINH CITY | Hotel Des Arts Saigon MGallery Collection is a 5 star boutique hotel in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City’s District 1, Saigon. We recently stayed as guests of the hotel when we were invited to Vietnam to celebrate the launch of direct Jetstar services between Melbourne/Sydney and Ho Chi Minh City.

The hotel is is funky hotel that chooses subdued flashes of style over flashy opulence. It’s a design decision that works, and gives the hotel just the right balance of class, modernity and style. The rooms are small, but well designed, and nails almost all the things that we look for in a hotel room. The WiFi is fast, reliable, and free, the beds and pillows are comfy, and the power outlets are well positioned for those who have multiple devices that they want to use and charge simultaneously.

The rooms are open, with a curtain separating the main part of the room from the wash basin, shower and toilet. We quite like the way this has been done as it makes the room feel bigger than it is. The shower has a nice, powerful head with water that heats up rapidly – the only downside for us was the lack of bath in the Deluxe room we stayed in. For a bath you’ll have to upgrade to a Grand Deluxe room. Other amenities include a gym, and a spa and massage centre, Le Spa des Artistes.

There’s a small bar in the lobby, and a dining space “Saigon Kitchen” a few floors up. We had breakfast at Saigon Kitchen and were impressed withe the variety of Vietnamese and Western dishes on offer. We highly recommend the South Vietnamese style congee, along with some local fresh fruit and freshly squeezed juices. And of course, a Vietnamese coffee.

For a drinks there’s the 23rd floor Social Club Restaurant, designed by Japanese design firm Super Potato in a classy, colonial era member’s club style. The bar offers great views across the city, a range of tasty cocktails and, for those who are hungry, a seafood focused, European menu. Our favourite part of the entire hotel though, is on the rooftop.

If you want a swim, the rooftop features an infinity pool which appears to run all the way to the edge of the rooftop, with breathtaking views across the city. Once you’re done swimming, there are several standing tables and relaxing armchairs along with a bar. At night, live DJs spin tunes and the vibe up here is vibrant and fun. If you’re anything like us, you’ll probably spend most of your time at the hotel up here.
