CHICAGO | It is rare to find a restaurant solely serving brunch and happy hour, however, Hutch Bistro and its sister venue Hutch Café have this concept down to a science. Hutch Bistro opened in Lakeview in 2013, followed by Hutch Café opening in 2016 in River North. The menu at both focuses on American comfort food and cocktails, made with quality ingredients.
The brunch menu includes breakfast staples such as the lox and bagel board, eggs benedict, and a daily quiche. For something a bit more adventurous, we like the fried chicken + corn waffle with bacon butter and maple syrup or the puled bacon and eggs flatbread with cheddar and red onion. When we are more in the mood for lunch, Hutch has a nice selection of burgers, sandwiches, and salads to fit the bill.
“Come thirsty, leave happy” is the slogan for the daily happy hour at Hutch. Weekdays from 4pm-7pm in River North and 3pm-6pm in Lakeview a variety of appetizers are served up for $5 each. Don’t miss the fried green tomatoes with herb dressing or the skillet cornbread with bacon butter. More importantly, the drink specials offered include $3 drinks and bottled beer, $4 glasses of wine, and $5 craft cocktails.
The Hutch guidelines for brunching sum up the casual, fun atmosphere of the place (although there is a rule in there too).
- drink and dine joyfully, moving to the bar to continue our mimosa party after 90 minutes;
- more wine, less whine;
- talk to strangers;
- four credit cards per table; and
- pajamas are always welcome
Whenever we get the chance to stop by, we’re happy to oblige… although we haven’t visited in our pajamas yet.
