LOS ANGELES | Intelligentsia Coffee Silver Lake is the granddaddy of third wave coffee in Los Angeles, and this Chicago import is still going strong after ten years. The simple reason as to why is that they serve great coffee – an array of ethically sourced, fair trade beans, brewed to perfection from a choice of almost any brewing method you could want. Beans are roasted in LA using an impressive 1950s 40kg gas-powered Ideal Rapid Gothot Roaster from Stuttgart, Germany.

The space is clean and modern, with a large tiled coffee bar being the showpiece of a venue whose clean lines and light timbers make for a sort of LA meets Stockholm. The walls are lined with bags of coffee beans, coffee making equipment and all kinds of other coffee paraphernalia, and it’s hard not to walk away with a bag of beans for home if you’ve got your own setup. If there’s space, we recommend grabbing a seat out on the front patio, so you can enjoy your coffee and watch the world go by, before exploring the numerous boutiques in the area.

For a unique, drink, try the signature quadruple shot of espresso shaken with milk, agave, and ice. It’s delicious and refreshing, and will have you buzzing off the walls.

If you can’t get to Intelligentsia Silver Lake, they also have cafes in Venice and Pasadena from which you can get your coffee fix.
