MEDELLIN | Macanas Medellin is a cafe in El Poblado that specialises in fantastic coffee and delicious breakfast and lunch dishes. Macanas Medellin is actually the second Macanas cafe – the original was founded a few years prior by friends Julián and Luis David in Jardin, about three and a half hours away.

Wen you walk into Macanas you’ll find a colourful, bright space with mosaic tiles, greenery, and two large black and white murals. The man in the mural is Don Darío, who grows coffee on his farm ‘Fortuna’ in Jardin. He does everything on his farm by hand, and has won several awards for his coffee. His coffee is what you’ll find brewing at Macanas, and it’s fantastic. The female mural is Doña Mariela, owner of Dulces del Jardín, a sweet shop in Jardin that supplies the sweets and pastries served at Macanas.

The food menu is simple, and along with the aforementioned sweets and pastries, includes simple dishes cooked on site. Think French toast with bacon and tomato, scrambled eggs with arepas, croissants and sandwiches. A must try is the “Don Dario”, a skilled with egg, avocado, chorichitos, beans, and tomatoes, with a quesito topped arepa on the side. It’s the perfect way to start the day.
