TOKYO | Paris’ Mariage Freres is one of our favourite tea shops in the world, and have been producing some of the finest teas around since 1854, when the House of Mariage would blend tea for King Louis XIV. Today, Mariage Freres have several stores in Japan, where customers can choose from over 500 types of tea from 35 countries. Our favourite, and largest, is the in Ginza. On the ground floor is the tea shop, where you can purchase and sample (be it smelling or drinking) tea to take away, along with a variety of tea making equipment, including some lovely tea pots.

The second and third floors contain a tea saloon, where you can enjoy tea, pastries and other small snacks served by very knowledgeable staff, who are happy to help find just the right tea for you. If you want to know which teas are our favourite, we highly recommend the Paris-Ginza, an elegant black tea with a creamy caramel sweetness and fresh aromas of red fruit, the Earl Grey French Blue, which adds sweet scented blue cornflower to the familiar bergamot of Earl Grey, American Breakfast, a rich, malty, black tea blend, and the Sakura White Tea, which combines Japanese cherry blossom with the light floral notes of white tea buds.

Make sure you check out the iced tea canisters too – the Havana, a green loose-leaf tea blended with hibiscus, sunflower, pomegranate and goji berries, is delightful.
