Milkbar, Docklands

MELBOURNE | Milkbar is an all day cafe and diner that’s opened up in Docklands, across from the less frequented side of Marvel Stadium. Offering a selection of classic Melbourne brunch and cafe dishes, plus pantry items, I popped in to take a look for What’s on Melbourne.

It’s a large, modern space, decked out with natural timber, wall tiles and brick, warm furnishings, and a natural colour palate. Large windows mean there’s lots of natural sunlight streaming in.

There’s the main coffee bar and takeaway counter downstairs, with seating and bench options for quick catch ups. Behind, you’ll find an elevated section with comfy booths and lounges, that connects to the adjoining residential tower.

On the menu, you’ll find things like chopped avocado on toasted sourdough, with whipped ricotta and a twist of yuzukosu, beetroot relish, and pickled onion; eggs benedict on brioche with a generous helping of crispy grilled mortadella; and oven roasted, crispy skin barramundi on potato, heirloom tomato, olive, and cucumber salad with cured egg, and a beetroot and buttermilk dressing.

If it’s just a quick bite to-go that you’re after, you’ll also find a selection of pastries, sandwiches, wraps, yoghurt and granola bowls, and the like in the display at the counter.

There’s the usual selection of quality espresso and filter coffee drinks, plus alternate lattes, teas, and more. Next to the kitchen, you’ll find the pantry section, which contains an assortment of fridge and pantry items sourced from local producers that you can buy for home.
