NEW YORK CITY | Other Half Brewing Company was founded in New York by friends Sam Richardson, Matt Monahan and Andrew Burman in 2014. Their aim was to create a brewery was independent, engaged with the local community, and made the kind of beer that they wanted to drink. Today, Other Half is a brewery that’s known the world over (despite the fact that their beer aren’t available outside of New York State) for making some of the best hop forward beers around.
Other Half’s Brooklyn taproom is in an industrial part of town in a warehouse space that’s been turned into a great little space. Large floor to ceiling windows let in lots of light and the high ceilings adds a sense of spaciousness. There’s a few large communal tables along with stools and standing room. At the taproom you can try an assortment of beer across 19 taps. The list is predominantly IPAs, and there’s usually a Stout, Berlinerweiss or Pilsner too. For the non-beer drinkers, there’s a few nice wines from nearby.
You can’t go wrong with any of the beers, and the friendly staff are always happy to help you choose something that’s right for you, whether it’s a single beer of a tasting paddle. Must try beers for us include the DDH Mylar Bags, a 8.8% ABV double dry hopped imperial IPA with Amarillo, Citra, El Dorado, Galaxy and Mosaic hops, oats, wheat, and citra and mosaic lupulin powder. It’s one of the best hazy NEIPA style beers we’ve tried. We also love the DDH Cream of Broccoli, a 7.9% ABV double dry hopped imperial Oat Cream IPA packed with Cascade, Hallertau Blanc, Mosaic and Simcoe hops.
There are also a few bottles and cans available for sale which you can enjoy at the taproom or bring home, and growler refills are also available.
