OLLANTAYTAMBO | Puka Rumi is a restaurant near Ollantaytambo’s main square that offers a bit of everything to the diner unsure of what to eat. We’re not going to tell you that this is the best place you’ll eat in Peru, or even Ollantaytambo, but in a town that’s used by most as an overnight stopover on the way to somewhere else, without much in the way of quality dining options, the food here is acceptable.
Traditional Peruvian dishes like lomo saltado are on the menu, but the focus here is really on local takes on international cuisine. Think things like pizza, steak, and burritos. Try the light chicken soup which is served with quinoa and vegetables, or the unique open burrito – two large flour tortillas with guacamole, beans, cheese, tomatoes, chicken and fried potato sticks.
