CUSCO | Qorikancha was at one point in time considered to be the religious, geographical and political center of Cusco, and it contained the very important Temple of the Sun. This temple was not only the most sacred site in the Inca religion but it was also considered to be the center of the Inca world. The Temple of the Sun contained extensive gold as the internal and external walls were covered in 700, 2kg gold plates as a dedication to the sun god Inti.

Unfortunately these gold plates and most of the gold artifacts were taken and melted down for the Spanish crown after the Spaniard conquered the Inca Empire. The Spanish not only pillaged the gold and silver from the site ,they also built the Christian monastery of Santo Domingo on top of the complex. This was a deliberate attempt to signify religious superiority. To enter this ruin you have to pay for entry into Inglesia De Santo Domingo however the museum below the Solar Garden is part of the Boleto Turistico pass.
