CHICAGO | It goes without saying that the US craft beer scene is booming. Illinois is home to more than 300 of the nation’s 4,000-plus microbreweries, with more opening all the time. Revolution Brewing Logan Square hardly needs an introduction these days, after all they are the big brother of the Chicago craft brewing scene and have opened the door for somewhere upwards of 150 Chicago craft breweries to open. And yet, with all that competition, Revolution seem to go from strength to strength. They are on tap in a growing number of Chicago bars and restaurants, and their beer can be bought in numerous stores and enjoyed directly at the source.
Revolution Brewing started as a single brewery and gastropub on Milwaukee Ave in Logan Square, Chicago in 2010. Flash forward to 2017 and it is the one of the top 50 craft brewing companies in the United States. They are now distributed in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York City, and Wisconsin. Based on the rate of expansion, if you aren’t in one of those states, you may not need to wait too long.
The success of the first brewpub paid off, and Revolution now operates an impressively large 90,000 square foot brewery and taproom on Kedzie in Avondale (opened Spring 2012). There you will find all the regular beers on tap as well as a rotating list of seasonals, from Fistmas at Christmas time though to Sun Crusher in Summer.
The vast space differentiates it from other breweries making it perfect for events. There is a reservable section on the main taproom floor, and the staff are friendly and accommodating. A lack of a kitchen (all the space is used for brewing) means you can bring in your own food. There is also shuffleboard, and you can also do a brewery tour conducted by the passionate Revolution staff (called Revolutionaries).
Revolution are very active in putting on events and attending other events. So keep a close eye on the events page of their website. The popular events sell out in advance.
If you are looking to round out your summer calendar check out the Brew Cruise on the Chicago River on August 18, 2017 which features appetizers, samples of Revolution beers, and the beautiful sky line.
