PERTH | When I’m in Perth and the craving for a burger hits, I find it hard to go past Short Order Burger Co. Owner Simon Kony creates burgers inspired by American diners and their “short order” cooks. He hails from Melbourne, and before moving to Perth, spent every Sunday night for two and a half years sampling burgers from Melbourne’s best burger joints.
He opened Short Order as a Fremantle pop-up in 2015, with a CBD store following in 2017.
There are a few burgers on the menu, along with sides, sodas and shakes. My favourite burger is the “Short Order” – a lightly toastedbrioche bun filled with a thick Blackwood Valley organic grass fed beef patty, smoked mozzarella, American cheddar, lettuce, tomato, pickles, mustard, ketchup and ‘Short Order’ sauce. By default the patty is cooked medium rare, but you can ask for it cooked well done if that’s your jam.
The chicken burger is also great. Buttermilk fried chicken with American cheddar, lettuce, tomato, sriracha, and short order sauce.
Every burger can be ordered as a single or double, with the option of maple candied bacon, extra pickles, cheese, sauce, even more beef of chicken patties, or no buns.
