MELBOURNE | The Standard Hotel is located in the backstreets of Fitzroy and is one of those hidden gems that’s survived doing what they’ve done best since 1865 – serving great beer and tasty pub food in a welcoming, cozy space. It’s made some changes as the years have gone by – for example alongside the old local’s favourites are newer craft beers from local breweries and the short wine list features some impressive whites and reds.
The inside has all of the hallmarks of an old pub – dark wood, sports memorabilia, old records and the like while the outside beer garden is leafy and quite spacious, and even has overhead heating in the covered portion for those cold days when you still want to be outside.
There’s no pretension here, just honest old fashioned pub goodness – perfect for a solo drink or session with friends.
