PERTH | tbsp. on King William Street in Bayswater always seems to have a line outside when you go past, and when you’ve had your first meal here, you know exactly why. The space itself is simple – white walls, wooden tables, wooden padded chairs, with the La Marzocco espresso machine, cold drip and filter equipment in clear view. Yes, tbsp takes its coffee seriously, with a variety of roasts from Small Batch Roasting Co and Blacklist Coffee Roasters being used to make coffees brewed any way you’d like. If coffee’s not your thing, tbsp delivers with drinks like matcha lattes, taro lattes and cold-pressed juices.

Apart from great coffee, what brings people to tbsp is their unique take on breakfast. The usual Aussie brunch favourites like smashed avocado, poached eggs, toast, bacon can be found on the menu, but much of the menu features Asian twists and influences. Ingredients are of the highest quality – fresh, seasonal and locally sourced. The congee with confit chicken, pickled cucumber, and slow cooked egg and chicken crackling is a must order dish, comfort food at its finest. The pulled brisket benedict with slow cooked eggs, roasted onions, and hollandaise is another winner. On your way out, make sure you grab a doughnut to take away – Asian flavours like black sesame, pandan, raspberry yuzu, and matcha & oreo all hit the spot wonderfully.

Service is fantastic – staff are very accommodating with different sized groups and happy to move around tables and seats to make things worth. Want to request any changes to the dishes your order? Not a problem. Yes there are lines, but it’s well worth the wait.
