NEW YORK CITY | The Butcher’s Daughter (Nolita) is a plant based restaurant, cafe and juice bar founded by designer Heather Tierney, who was inspired to open a plant based cafe while coming up with ideas for exotic cocktails for Apothéke, her cocktail bar in New York’s Chinatown. The cafe was designed by Tierney, and features a light, airy aesthetic which draws inspiration from the butcher shops of old. It’s a clash of feminine and masculine energy, with industrial elements blending with softer aspects.

The Butcher’s Daughter is 100% vegetarian, non-dairy and mostly vegan and gluten-free. Everything is made on site from scratch, using seasonal produce sourced from local and organic farms. Dishes are well balanced and full of flavour, with highlights coming from things that showcase the innate quality of the produce, rather than trying to be substitutes for meat. Try the watermelon ricotta salad with baby spinach, fresh cut watermelon, cashew ricotta, toasted sunflower seeds, and date vinagrette for a healthy start to the day. Another favourite is the smashed avocado toast, which sees ripe avocado smashed with curry, cilantro mustard seeds & lime on toasted 7-grain bread.

For drinks try the Brass Monkey raw smoothie with banana, peanut butter, raw honey, almond milk and maca, or one of the tasty mimosas or freshly cold pressed juices. We love the Eastern Promise, a blend of lemongrass, pear, cucumber, ginger and kaffir lime.

There’s a second Butcher’s Daughter location in the West Village, along with a LA food truck and Venice restaurant.
