LONDON | On Kentish Town Road just a few steps from Camden Tube Station is The Famous Flames, a hip fifteen seat restaurant, which offers some serious flame grill in the form of flame grilled burgers, fried wings and the like.

We were invited to try out the new spot, and really liked the vibrant hip atmosphere that completely matches Camden Town’s spirit. The food menu contains an array of theme appropriate food like buttermilk fried chicken breast and waffles, an array of sandwiches/burgers, wings, tenders, and a few sides and other bits and pieces. The sandwiches, whilst on a slightly smaller size than usual, will keep your taste buds happy, but there are places doing this sort of burger better. For us, the reason to visit The Famous Flames is the wing buckets and the potato waffles.

The Famous Flames offer six choices of wing buckets – Garlic Parmesan, Classic Buffalo, Chipotle Honey Habanero BBQ, Saigon Caramel, General Tso’s, and Nashville Hot. Deciding which to order is a very difficult decision, and they are all pretty tasty – our favourite two are the Saigon Caramel and Chipotle Honey Habanero BBQ. Both are very well balanced and seasoned with really tasty flavour. The Saigon Caramel has, as you’d expect, a Vietnamese twist with fish sauce, brown sugar, fried garlic & chilli oil, while the Chipotle Honey Habanero BBQ uses smoked chipotle, honey & coriander, for a nice sweet and chilli balance. If you consider yourself a bit of a heat fiend, go for Nashville Hot, which contains a generous amount of Cayenne pepper in its coating.

The waffle fries are served in decent portions and are nice and fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside – get them topped with oozy cheese for some added indulgence. Nachos, skinny fries, and slaw complete the sides list.

It’s sometimes hard to decide what to order when in this part of London, as quality options tend to be lacking, but The Famous Flames gets enough right to make it a contender for a bit of indulgence in Camden Town.
