MUNSTER | 3 Floyds Brewing Co. is located in a nondescript industrial park in Munster, Indiana and is well known the world over for producing some of the most highly regarded beers in the world.

The brewery was founded in 1996 by three members of the Floyd family – brothers Nick and Simon and their father Mike and has stayed true to its ethos of making fantastic beers using only the highest quality ingredients. The brewpub is a cozy unpretentious space, and unlike a lot of warehouse based brewpubs feels more like a traditional pub with a low roof, lots of wood and assorted knickknacks dotted around the venue.

There are eight core range beers, including the popular Alpha King, a 6.7% ABV American Pale Ale, and Zombie Dust, a 6.4% ABV Pale Ale. There’s a constantly rotating selection of seasonal beers, and a number of one off beers available both on tap and in bottles at the brewery. Tasting paddles are available so you can try a few things.

The food here is much more than an afterthought too. It’s a seasonal menu full of locally sourced produce, and many of the dishes use beer as an ingredient. Think confit duck dumplings with cherry & pequin pepper, ginger aioli, braised cabbage, and pickled relish, and smoked pork shoulder tacos with salsa roja, cabbage, cilantro & tequila lime dressing, and cotija cheese. There’s a good range of sandwiches and pizzas too.

If you’re really dedicated to good beer, grab a ticket to “Dark Lord Day”. It’s the one day of the year when the brewery releases Dark Lord, one of the most sought after beers in the world. Dark Lord is a Russian Imperial Stout brewed with Dark Matter coffee, vanilla and sugar/molasses. Tickets are limited to 6,000, so plan early.
