MEDELLIN | Urbania Café is a small cafe in the trendy Patio Bonito section of Medellin’s El Poblado neighbourhood. The focus here is on high quality Colombian coffee, and the production process from bean to cup.
The space is relaxing, with a large roller door that opens the cafe out to the street level. Inside, wooden floor boards and a wooden coffee bar combine with with walls filled with photographs of coffee related objects and scenes. There are couches, stools, tables and seats inside, with further seating out the front. It combines for a relaxing, rustic environment.
Urbania is a socially and environmentally responsible cafe, dedicated , supporting communities of small coffee growers who are or have been in situations of vulnerability due to armed conflict, natural disasters or other social, economic or environmental circumstances. They ensure that coffee growers get a fair price for their beans, and are involved in all processes from bean to cup. The result is some of the best coffee you can find in Medellin.
An assortment of single origin beans and blends are available here, and you can have your coffee brewed any way you like. The Cafe Calima house blend is particularly delicious, with aromas of mangosteen and caramel, and notes of pear, green grape, and lemon.
Urbania are particularly known for their milky coffee drinks. Their lattes – hot and iced, are particularly fantastic, and on a hot day their well balanced frappes go down a treat.
For food its a small selection of pastries, and there’s also free WiFi available.
