AUSTRALIA | Ever wondered what the restaurant equivalent of the Oscars is? The World’s 50 Best Restaurants is likely the answer.
Usually held in London and most recently in New York, The World’s 50 Best Restaurants awards are coming to Melbourne in 2017. The event’s purpose is simple really, and that is to rank and award the best restaurants in the world. But that’s not all, these awards are voted for by almost 1,000 of the best chefs, food journalists and industry experts in the world.
In recent years, Australia has made big waves in the restaurant scene thanks to the likes of Quay, Sepia, Brae, and of course Attica featuring and helping to put our country on the map for food tourism. And if you’ve been reading the City Lane, you will know that there are few things we like more than travel and food.
Aside from the prestige of holding the awards, an extensive events program, in association with Tourism Australia, Restaurant Australia, Visit Victoria, and Wine Victoria will kick off in 2017. These events will showcase Australia’s food and wine offering in stunning locations across the country, not just Melbourne. We’ll be covering them here so we suggest you keep an eye out – we’ll make sure you’re on top of all you need to know.
