MELBOURNE | Preston Market opened in 1970 and has grown to become one of the most popular markets in Melbourne’s northern suburbs. A renewal project, which was completed in 2017, saw several upgrades to make the market a better place for traders and customers alike but make no mistake, it’s still very much the same Preston market it’s always been, in a good way.
Over 130 traders run their stalls and stores from Wednesday to Sunday, offering customers a selection of mostly locally sourced fresh fruit and vegetables, meat, poultry and seafood. There are also numerous stall selling all kinds of non-food related items, and several vendors selling cooked food that’s ready to eat on the spot. It’s a multicultural market, with traders and customers from all over the world making sure that if you want to buy something you’ll be able to find it.
We visit here often, and are always impressed by the quality of the produce on offer, especially the seafood. We’re always trying out new recipes inspired by our adventures around the globe, and more often than not we can find the obscure ingredients we’re looking for here.
