MELBOURNE | Attention sandwich lovers! A new panini bar, Appy Eatery has opened in Elgin Street Carlton. Delivering fresh off the menu made panini with tasty filling combinations to compliment their wide array of gourmet bread, from your classic breakfast favorite sourdough to a lush pungent turmeric roll.
The contemporary interior of Appy Eatery creates a calm atmosphere with natural light beaming through the shop front highlighting their wooden furnishings and vibrant pops of greenery with baby cactus decorating each table and plants hanging from the ceiling. There is an underlying retro vibe present with their plush mustard coloured booth threaded along the wall on a copper pipe adding an industrial touch giving the customer a clear view of their open kitchen allowing you to watch your panini being made fresh before your eyes.
Owner of Appy Eatery Adrian told us that his aim is to create a fun concept with the menu, offering your classic fillings with a twist to keep the ingredients exciting and to ensure flavour combinations are unique and stimulating. Each panini on the menu is named after a street in Carlton, which is a nice touch as it gives the locals a sense of community and familiarity.
Flavour combinations are delightful with your classic smashed avo on crispy pumpkin sourdough, to a fancy twist on the familiar breakfast roll, delivering the staple ingredients of fried egg and sizzling bacon with a punch of chilli jam to take it up a notch. From breakfast to lunch panini the flavours continue to shine, panko crumbed chicken schnitzel with a tangy dill sauce nestled between crispy sourdough bread sang as the sound of each bite resonated a satisfying crunch.
Appy Eatery caters for vegetarians and vegans as well as offering gluten free options and salads. Soft drinks, cold pressed juices and hot drinks are available, with the chai latte a particular highlight with the perfect balance of spice to sweetness. Sweet treats are on hand with a throwback to childhood nostalgia. Who said fairy bread was only allowed for kids? Crispy toasted bread with melted butter topped with hundreds and thousands and garnished with fluffy white fairy floss goes down a treat.
