LONDON | December is only just upon us and we’re already being swarmed by countless festive markets and winter pop-ups. Many of these spaces are crudely put together to sell some overpriced mulled wine or useless knick knacks to visitors, but Archer Street’s annual winter makeover is known for being inventive, luxurious and genuinely fun. We were invited down to see what they had in store for guests this winter season.

After entering the main Archer Street building, you’ll make your way downstairs to the bar and quickly forget you’re in the centre of Soho. The warm and cosy space has fur-lined loungers in small intimidate alcoves, antlers hanging from the ceiling and ski equipment subtly placed along the timber clad walls. It’s all done perfectly. For the night, you’re taken into a luxury lodge far up in the mountains.

But the Piste Winter Bar isn’t just about the venue. It’s an experience. The all-too attractive barmen and servers double as your entertainment for the evening. That’s right, you’ll have some cheesy singing waiters. We were expecting this to be a bit cringe but were surprised by just how casual and talented the performers were. They strolled about the space every 5-10 minutes singing classic Christmas carols, 50’s ballads and even a few current tunes. It all adds to the feeling that you’re somewhere entirely different. Not just out of London, but in some olde time movie.

And, of course, their festive cocktails were a treat. They added spices to some of their classics and made some entirely new drinks just for Piste guests. They were tasty yet slightly over sweetened. But, have no fear, you can still order your classic old fashioned or espresso martini from off the menu. You won’t be disappointed there.

As you’re drinking with friends or work colleagues, the night will slowly transition. You’ll start off all soft and mellow, sinking into the plush banquettes until the music picks up and you get some more upbeat, sing-along tunes that will get you dancing. It’s a great combination. But as the night goes on, the clientele will change with it. Before you know it, you’ll be surrounded by suits. You’re quickly reminded that you’re still in London.

This place could easily play host to some wildly fun Christmas parties but it can also double as a quirky yet classy spot to grab a few drinks after work. If you’re needing a brief escape from the hectic London life, need some decent booze and don’t mind a very pretty waiter jumping on your table and singing to you, then Archer Street’s Piste Winter Bar is certainly for you.
