MELBOURNE | Alex, owner of new Brunswick East billiards hall, Bill’s Billiards Club, has been playing snooker for over 50 years. He’s often thought about opening a venue that recreated the best bits about the smoke-filled, dimly lit, venues filled with interesting characters that they played in when they were young. At Bill’s, he’s made that dream a reality.
The space has a worn-in warmness to it that defies its cavernous, former workshop shell. There’s a few full-sized twelve-foot tables, lots of seven- and eight-foot tables, and one six-foot table. Each table is lined with green felt, with traditional lighting set up overhead. There’s couches dotted around, and seating at each table. The vibe is relaxed and friendly, and there’s a real community spirit here.
Tables at Bill’s can be hired at $26 an hour ($22 an hour if you’re a member). Individual tables can’t be booked in advance, however there are options offered for large groups and events. There’s also regular classes, pool competitions and events held throughout the week.
There’s no bar, but you’re free to BYO alcohol with a $6 a head corkage fee. There’s fridges by the tables to keep your drinks cold, and wine/beer glasses provided.
Bill’s is dog-friendly, and you’ll often see Alex’s dog, Noddy, wandering around.
