MEDELLIN | Bogota Beer Company is one of the originators of Colombia’s craft beer scene, and has been brewing beer since the early 2002. Founder Berny Silberwasser started the brewery after visiting breweries in Europe and the USA, learning how to brew beer, and discovering a variety of styles, and today the brewry has expanded beyond its hometown into cities like Medellin.
Owned by Anheuser-Busch InBev since 2015, Bogota Beer Company has expanded rapidly and is one of the best known beer brands in Colombia. You’re not going to find the best craft beer in town at Bogota Beer Company but the beer here is more than acceptable and some of the rotating seasonal and one-off beers are fantastic. There are five core range beers that are always available on tap, six seasonal beers, and a few one-offs available at any given time.
The Monserrate Roja, a 5.0% ABV English-style Red Ale, is the best of the core range beers, with a lot of body and a balanced aroma. The seasonal Septimazo Tipo, a 6.0% ABV American IPA, is also well worth trying. If you want to try a few things, a variety of different sized tasting paddles is offered.
For those who don’t want beer, a decent selection of spirits and cocktails, as well as a few wines is also available. If you’re hungry, there’s a solid variety of pub classics like burgers, nachos and wings. We’d recommend eating elsewhere if possible, but the food is perfectly acceptable as a default option if you’re in need of a feed, and the crispy chips are great.
